Fabio Rezende wins Ebonite Brazilian Cup and $5,000
|
Brazil's international Fabio Rezende survived a 35-game
handicap challenge en route to win the Ebonite Brazilian Cup and $5,000 in Sao Paulo.
Rezende, who won the bronze medal with brazil's five-player team at the recently held
American Zone Championships, shot games of 213 and 223 in the four-player finale, good
enough to win even without handicap. Chico Chavez finished in second place, with Celso
Feltrin in third and Joao Carneiro in fourth.
86 players participated in four divisions: men under 40 years of age, 40 to 49 years, over
50 years and women. All players bowled 24 games of qualifying with handicap based on 80%
of 210 for men and 85% for women. The handicap was taken after the first 8 games and then
updated after every 4 games. 20% of the players in each division advanced to the next
round of 3 games starting at scratch. The top 50% advanced to another 3-game block. The
top eight players (all divisions) advanced to the semi-final over three games. The top
four advanced to the finale. Photos courtesy of Jose Castro. |
